Taking part in the Handshake was a life changing experience for me. As a web and digital media person I took part to use, improve, learn and share my skills for an important cause. But I quickly learned much more about the cause and the importance of conservation and community. Since Uganda 2009 I’ve taken my experiences with me in my professional and personal life. There were great vibes from the very start and the staff and volunteers quickly became great friends and great people to work with and share experiences with. – See more at:...

Travelling with The Great Primate Handshake is the entire package, especially if you have an interest in wildlife, animal conservation and helping others. You will get to travel to many parts of the country that is your destination, meet new and wonderful people, and have a few parties while you’re at it. The staff are dedicated and enthusiastic, and will help you with any concern or difficulty you may be having, and are also genuine. For me Kenya was the best way to spend my summer, not only did I get the satisfaction from helping other primates, but also learnt a a great deal while I was out there. Not only that but it looks great on a CV, and is an opportunity not to be missed. The experience is something that you shall never forget, and will show you the joy that is Africa. – See more at: http://www.volunteerforever.com/program_reviews_detail/great-primate-handshake#sthash.6lsbLXoZ.dpuf – See more at:...

The Great Primate Handshake is like no other overseas volunteer experience available, and for me it was exactly what I was looking for. It combined my passion for wildlife conservation with my interest in digital media; it could not have been more perfect! I went on the Uganda trip in 2012 and have nothing but praise for the organisers who went to every length to make it the most incredibly rewarding, fulfilling and hilarious trip, more so than I ever could have imagined. You become so close over four weeks of living in each other’s pockets and really do feel like a family at the end of it. For me it was also the perfect opportunity to fit in some further travelling into my summer. I stayed on after the trip to do my own bit of exploring and saw the most incredible sights. Although Africa can be pretty daunting, the Handshake really set me up for setting off on my own adventure and I felt much more confident as a result. I came away from the Handshake feeling truly inspired and motivated towards finding a career in the field of conservation and have no doubt that I would not have got my current job without having this experience under my belt. A big massive thank you to everyone at the GPH for everything that they did for me over the summer!! It is an experience I would totally recommend to everyone and anyone. And… if ever get the chance I will be going again! – See more at:...

The Great Primate Handshake is a wonderful opportunity to step into the lives of those living in local communities across several countries in Africa. Through participating as part of the team you gain valuable insight into the customs and beliefs of others, often being welcomed with great warmth and celebration. In return you have the opportunity and privilege to help produce promotional media for the conservation groups you meet, providing a platform for their voice to be heard internationally. When embarking on a Handshake expedition you will realise that there is a large world yet to be told, and many voices still to be heard, that are untouched by communications media. Many of these communities do not have plumbing and flushing toilets let alone electricity or a means to electronically record their lives and efforts in conservation. The people you meet will be so grateful as well as excited for your hard work. – See more at:...

I had such an amazing time volunteering with the Great Primate Handshake. It is such a different experience and a completely unique way of being a volunteer. You get to immerse yourself in a colourful and exciting culture while still learning new skills with the latest technology in film-making and editing. As an inexperienced camper, I thoroughly enjoyed camping under the African stars, particularly listening to hippos at night and waking up next to the source of the Nile. The people involved are so enthusiastic and dedicated to the cause – you all end up feeling like part of a big family! I joined the Handshake not quite knowing what I was doing, with no experience in filming, a vague interest in primate conservation and a desire to visit Africa. This was the perfect way to spend the end of my summer and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone! – See more at:...

I went to Uganda with the Handshake back in 2010 and it was amazing – the people are so friendly you become like family while you’re there. Although my interests are more educational based than media I found the whole experience wonderful and I learnt so much out there. Africa is an incredible place to be and I was so lucky to be there with such lovely people, if I could bring a one year old with me I’d be going back this year!!! – See more at:...

My trip in 2010 to Kenya with the Great Primate Handshake was amazing! It inspired me to pursue a career in conservation education and gave me the skills and experience I needed to get onto my internship. As well as this I had a truly amazing time thanks to the Handshake and hope to one day travel with them again. – See more at: http://www.volunteerforever.com/program_reviews_detail/great-primate-handshake#Reviews

All I can say is GET VOLUNTEERING with this organisation! I was part of the Kenya trip in 2010 and had an unforgettable experience. The team were amazing, totally dedicated to their cause. I made some brilliant friends that I’m still in contact with. Volunteering with GPH changed the way I see the world and gave me the opportunity to see areas of Kenya that would have been unavailable to me otherwise. I’d love to get the opportunity to go out with them again one day. A perfect volunteering experience. – See more at:...

What an experience! I went to Kenya in 2009 as part of the film production team. I met great people who I am still in touch with, one from the states who I visited the year after. Its an awesome opportunity to travel, meet people, build on your production skills (more hands on than the uni course I did in media) and make a difference. DO IT! – See more at: http://www.volunteerforever.com/program_reviews_detail/great-primate-handshake#Reviews

Volunteering with the Great Primate Handshake was the best thing I could ever have done with my summer. An incredible experience meeting new people in an amazing place. The staff are extremely helpful and the whole group becomes like one big family. The amount of different projects we became involved with and we created content for were inspirational organizations and would love to go back to see everyone again. From dancing with the primary school children to plating trees with locals – the entire experience was one I could never have imagined! Travelling by truck was a great experience, just remember not to call it a bus or you owe the driver a beer! I would most definitely recommend the Great Primate Handshake to anyone who would like to do something completely different with their summer. Truly an amazing journey and could not have done it with nicer people! kenya 2012 is a trip that will live with me forever. Would like to say a big thank you to all who made it special!
